Graduates make good employees because of their open-minded attitude and sense of curiosity, an expert has said. Some of the advantages to hiring graduates include the fact that they are flexible and "haven't got many ties" and are good at "looking at things from different angles", according to Dan Hawes of the Graduate Recruitment Bureau. "They tend to challenge how things have been done before and if the company can accommodate that, then that's great," he remarked. "They're very inquisitive and question how things should be; they've come from a learning environment, so they continually learn in the workplace." He added that small businesses in particular may offer graduates more early involvement and responsibility, as well as quicker progression up the corporate ladder. A recent report from Hay Group stated that the average graduate salary stands at £20,812, a 2.5 per cent increase from 2006.
