A senior figure at Numis suggested on Monday (May 10th) that graduates are the "future of the business". The investment banking and institutional stockbroking company currently employs about 180 people in London and 12 in New York, efinancialcareers.co.uk reports. Having launched its first-ever graduate programme in January, the firm is now convinced that it will continue to boost its workforce with university leavers. "Although we have always had a policy of hiring exceptional graduates, this is the first time we have hired as a group," head of human resources Martine Skinner told the news provider. "The programme lasts for 11 months and we will develop and manage their progress through the organisation to enable them to make a strong contribution to the future success of the business." However, a recent study by Astbury Marden suggested that the average number of qualified candidates for each new City job vacancy has halved from 5.7 in March 2009 to just 2.7 in March 2010.
