Graduates ought to begin planning their future careers while still at university, an expert has advised. The Association of Graduate Careers Advisory Services (Agcas) has stated that the best prepared undergraduates will be filling out application forms for graduate recruitment initiatives as they enter in to their final year at university. Commenting on the issue, Margaret Dane, chief executive of Agcas, said: "Leaving the thinking and the action until the last minute is a recipe for poor applications, rejections and drifting," She added that students should ideally be considering which direction they intend to take after graduation in their first or second years. This means that students would "already have an idea what they want, why they want it and what they have to offer potential employers" by the time they begin posting applications. According to the 2007 UK Graduate Careers Survey, the earliest applications for vacancies were for those in the financial and accountancy sector.
