Graduates living in the south-east may wish to consider a career in teaching in Hertfordshire, the county council has suggested. The authority has announced it is to hold an open day for anyone considering the profession, which will be held in Wheathampstead on January 4th 2008. Alison Parkes said the event was not just for student teachers residing in the county. "We're also hoping to attract returning teachers, teachers from other authorities, career changers, both graduates and non-graduates - in fact anyone who thinks teaching may be for them," she stated. The council is particularly keen to seek those who can teach subjects where there is a shortage of teachers, such as maths, science and English. While Hertfordshire seeks more teachers, those considering a move into the role in Scotland may be attracted by news of the latest pay settlement. The Scottish government agreed an above-inflation seven per cent rise over the next three years last week.
