Graduates job hunters who have yet to determine what career path they wish to take may be interested to hear of a new government-funded scheme aimed at recent university leavers. A fee of £15,000 will be given to graduates looking to retrain in the social care field, which will include studying for a Masters degree. Those interested in applying will need a 2:1 degree or better to gain a place on the 'Step Up to Social Work' programme, while those who have worked with children and families before may stand a better chance of success. There are 200 places available on the initiative which has received the majority of its funding from the Department for Children, Schools and Families. Keith Brumfitt, director of strategy for the Children's Workforce Development Council, which created the programme, said: "This new scheme is a really positive step in ensuring that we attract the absolute best people to pursue a career in social work. "We want to remove potential barriers which may prevent skilled professionals from seeking to train as a social worker."
