New enterprises will be beneficial to those looking for graduate jobs in Scotland, if new employers can get the help they need to set themselves up first, says on expert. Bill Jamieson, writing in the Scotland on Sunday, said that innovation and entrepreneurship needed a boost in the country if university leavers were going to have a chance at getting a graduate job. Business start-ups are lacking in Scotland, according to Mr Jamieson, and figures are well behind the average for the UK despite funding for university spin-out projects which aim to help graduates. Sandy Finlayson, a partner at MBM, a firm which is collaborating with the University of Edinburgh to encourage enterprise investment, told the newspaper: "Just one in eight graduates from Scottish universities are expected to get graduate-level jobs this year." He added: "We must invest in our future if we wish to have one." Gordon Marsden, MP for Blackpool South recently said that employers should be providing graduate internships to help the UK recover from the recession, according to ePolitix.com.
