Internet 'good resource for landing a job'

More graduates are turning to the internet to land a job, according to new research.

Evidence from several companies regarding online recruitment has been collected by website onrec.com and the results demonstrate that the web is more popular than ever.

James Meachin, occupational psychologist at Pearn Kandola, said that new technologies such as blogs and interactive media mean that graduates can gain more knowledge about prospective employers.

He also commented that the web is becoming the standard for employers looking for suitable candidates, saying: "Increasingly, many large private and public organisations accept only online applications for graduate schemes."

Meanwhile, Allan Brown, sales director at Graduate Prospects, remarked that today's tech-savvy graduates "see [computers and the internet] as natural tools for their career planning process".

These views may be of interest to those seeking media sales jobs, particularly if they are looking this summer. The latest Manpower Employment Outlook Survey recently revealed that 21 per cent of companies anticipate hiring more staff between July to September.
