The IT and telecoms sectors are optimistic about recruitment despite the challenging jobs market, according to new research. A recent study conducted by the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) at its IT and communications sector group meeting indicated that recruiters in the sector rated their confidence in the current market six out of ten - which may be of note to graduates considering such careers. David Smith, vice-chairman of the REC IT and communications sector group and managing director of Interactive Selection, said he was confident about recruitment levels in the wake of the economic downturn. "Some of the companies in attendance are inevitably struggling, but others were up 50 per cent on last year. IT is an integral part of all organisations, there are many parts [of the sector] which are growing," he remarked.
