Managers are too busy to provide support for their learning and development department
According to a recent survey by the learning company KnowledgePool has identified that 70% of learning and development managers claim that their training department is under resourced and 42% feel that the support from senior management is insufficient.
44% of learning and development practitioners felt that the current training that they provide isn’t adding any value to their business. Al Bird, Learning Consultancy director at KnowledgePool felt that because of the lack of resources available to this department there isn’t enough focus going into the training and development of today’s employees.
Al Bird also commented that "Constant fire fighting means that L&D teams don't have the time to be strategic. This means that organisations are missing an opportunity to vastly improve performance at every level."
The British Chambers of Commerce also revealed that SME’s in the UK would want to hire more staff, but feel that it would be too hard to find the right people and at the right price as recruitment costs can be expensive. The British Chambers of Commerce found that only a third of small businesses believe graduates to have the skills required to join their business.
