Increase in people placed in permanent jobs

permanent job placements 150Recruitment in January sees large increase in Permanent job placements

January saw the largest increase in recruitment for permanent job placements including sales recruitment in the last six months, with demand for staff at its highest since last June according to a new report from The Recruitment & Employment Confederation (REC). The REC also reports that temporary and contract recruitment continues to grow at a fast pace.

This should be encouraging for those out of work, with very positive signs that recruitment across several sectors is increasing with businesses looking to take on more staff, for both permanent and temporary positions. This should particularly be a boost for the graduate job market after recent figures from the office of national statistics showed that graduate unemployment was at its highest in the last fifteen years.

Demand has improved markedly in some sectors with a boost for the Information Technology industry as well as engineering; however competition in the jobs market remains high after three consecutive months of growth, although it remained stable in January.

Several industry figures have commentated on the latest figures with Bernard Brown of KPMG stating “The latest figures are encouraging. Employers across all sectors have been expanding their workforce in January, with no real pressure building on wage inflation.” However he also cautions "With looming public sector job cuts, the VAT rise and slowing economic growth, the UK job market is likely to remain volatile over the coming months.”
