Female graduate job hunters may be interested to hear that the prime minister, Gordon Brown, has called for there to be more women in Britain's boardrooms after meeting leading female executives for a breakfast meeting to celebrate International Women's Day. At the breakfast, Mr Brown said that both politicians and businesses needed to collaborate to make certain that the talent and skills of women were being put to use in the boardroom, the official Ten Downing Street website reports. He made the comments in reference to a recent survey of more than 1,000 adults which showed that almost two out of three said they thought there was not enough female directors in big business. "We all recognise the value of strong role models for women in all walks of life - and there are many in politics, the arts, public services, sport and the third sector, but there are too few in Britain’s boardrooms," he added in a podcast released yesterday. "When more than half of graduates are women, it is completely unacceptable that some of our top 100 public companies have not a single woman on their boards, and that none at all have a majority of women on their boards."
