Britons are increasingly appreciating the benefits adult learning can bring to their prospects of landing a job, it has been suggested. Last week, the National Institute of Adult Continuing Education claimed that 43 per cent of UK adults are now involved in higher learning, or have been in the past three years. In the wake of those findings, the Workers' Educational Association (WEA) has claimed that postgraduate courses can give participants a distinct advantage in a competitive job market. "People are becoming aware that securing a job will get increasingly harder as more and different skills are required," said a spokesman for the WEA. "So, it's natural that people will see adult learning courses as one of the ways to gain the necessary skills." The spokesman added that a number of the WEA's students have received the confidence and understanding they need to move forward in their careers as a result of adult learning. Last week, Tony Lee, a publisher at CareerCast.com, suggested that graduates' low salary expectations and potential for development give them an advantage over other job-seekers.
