The latest Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) survey has shown that employers are much more confident about redundancies and recruitment, with 94 per cent saying they expect either to maintain or increase the number of full-time staff employed in the next year. It also shows that one in four employers are planning to increase the amount part-time staff hired in the next year, which highlights the important flexibility that temporary work provides to both employers and jobseekers. Roger Tweedy, the REC's director of research, said: "As a result of increasing employer confidence we should expect to see more hires over the coming year. "Businesses are naturally cautious about the economic recovery, which is why the provision of temporary and contract work will continue to provide a useful outlet." Elsewhere, Kevin Green, the REC's chief executive claimed today (February 17th) that the Office for National Statistics unemployment figures represent "good news" for graduate job hunters. Mr Green was commenting on the numbers which show a 3,000 person reduction in the number of people out of work in the UK, with the figure now standing at 2.46 million.
