Retail stores closing in 2011 means less graduate vacancies

retail sector jobs 150More and more retail stores closing means graduate vacancies are harder to come by

10,000 retail outlets are forecasted to close this year which will result in many retail graduate jobs being lost in the sector.

Joshua Bamfield, director for the centre of Retail Research, warned that independent retailers are going to be the worst hit in 2011. This all comes after the latest BRC-Bond Pierce Retail Jobs Monitor revealed that the number of hours worked by retail employees had dropped by 1.5 per cent at the end of 2010, equating to around 10,300 full time jobs compared to 2009.

Retailers that aren’t part of a major corporation may suffer because of the lack of financial backing, and after suffering since the start of the recession things in 2011 are still not getting much better. Although the retail sector is week for graduate jobs there are still many sectors that are showing promise entering 2011 and are helping the recruitment of graduates, predominantly sales recruitment and IT recruitment.
