Economic downturn has made sales teams less experienced and in need of sales training
UK sales recruitment is in need of a boost in sales training to increase the nation’s competitiveness with the likes of Germany and other European Nations. During the economic downturn many companies stopped their training to save costs, and also reduced headcount. This means there is a serious short fall in sales talent, and many sales teams need sales training to stay ahead in the game and help the company come out strong from the recession.
Andrew Goodwin, Senior Economic Advisor to the Ernst and Young ITEM club has said that UK exports will rise by 12 per cent in the next decade as emerging markets boost demand and the need for sales talent to make this possible is at an all time high with many sales teams seen huge changes since 2008..
After many businesses cut back their sales force, and let go of experienced sales people to reduce their payroll expenses, this has had a serious affect coming out of the recession. The newly recruited sales talent aren’t familiar with the products and services they are selling. This leads to reduced sales and decreased value for customers because the sales team aren’t able to pitch appropriately.
This has created a need to prioritise sales training and familiarise an inexperienced sales force in the field with the product/services supplied by the company. This in turn will lead to a more thorough understanding when sales people are selling the features and can make better recommendations, leading to higher confidence in purchasing and greater customer satisfaction, whilst at the same time the key to closing more sales and increasing customer retention.
