Is Social Media useful for graduates when they are searching for a graduate job?
Although social media is still in the early stages for job searches, more and more companies are entering the market to develop their search for graduates. Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIN all offer graduate job groups to broaden their search for graduates to apply for a graduate training scheme.
Graduates find these social media sites a great way to network with potential recruitment decision makers and get their profile noticed by employees. The Recruiter recently reported that students however don’t find social media a useful way to look for a job. According to the report 8 out of 10 students don’t use social media at all when looking for a job, and tend to use online job sites and job boards.
It also found that graduates solely rely on this form of job search and methods such as newspaper adverts, job centres, and careers services are rarely used. Yet with more and more graduates unemployed, and employees halting their graduate recruitment for their graduate training schemes there is more reason for graduates to throw themselves into every available avenue to gain a graduate job ahead of heavy competition.
