Graduates are starting to use social networking sites such as Facebook, LinkedIN and Twitter to apply for jobs, but many businesses and their bosses lack the necessary skills to attract the top graduates.

The use of a kind letter to attract a top graduate are seemingly behind us and social networking as ushered in a new era. Delegates at the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) argue that social media is becoming a necessary tool in graduate recruitment.

Iain McLaughlin, Head of recruitment for KPMG commented that graduates can now receive multiple offers over the internet. Managers need to be able to engage with the next generation of business leaders, and training courses for social media will start to flourish.
