Teaching careers recommend to graduates

Teaching careers recommend to graduates Graduates unconvinced by the financial rewards and career progression opportunities offered by a career in teaching have been urged to reconsider their viewpoint.

A recent survey by the Training and Development Agency (TDA) showed that two-thirds of graduates believed teaching is a dead-end job.

But it also revealed that as many as 80 per cent of the students polled underestimated the amount that a teacher receives in salary in their first year on the job, the Telegraph reports.

Only careers in journalism and human resources were rated worst for promotion opportunities, with two-thirds (66 per cent) believing that teaching offers poor changes for career progression.

Graham Holley, chief executive of the TDA, told the paper: "There is a danger that outdated and old-fashioned perceptions of teaching could continue to put off some candidates.

"Teaching offers more opportunities for career progression than any other career and competitive salaries, particularly for those who progress to senior leadership."

The Conservative Party recently pledged to make teaching an elite career that targets the best graduates if elected to government later this year.ADNFCR-834-ID-19632199-ADNFCR
