The quality of sales training on offer and the range of career paths opened up are among the reasons why many graduates are drawn to positions at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), according to the firm's head of recruitment. Already during 2010, the UK firm has made strong progress in its goal to appoint 1,000 new members of staff by taking on 153 graduates as part of its spring intake. Over 2,000 individuals submitted applications for the positions, with Sonja Stockton remarking that this is because applicants are aware of the benefits a job at the firm will have on their career prospects. She said: "The continued demand and interest in our roles from students and graduates alike shows no signs of tailing off, because they realise that when they join PwC, they are joining a university of business. "The level of training, investment and support we give them, the quality of work, and the variety of career opportunities it opens up means we're becoming a hot house for UK business talent." Ms Stockton added the business particularly seeks graduates with a sound academic base, alongside confidence in their ability and a willingness to learn. Meanwhile, a spokesman for HSBC recently told Targetjobs that graduates should provide practical skills alongside academic qualifications when applying for a job.
