Graduate job hunters may be interested to hear that the chief executive of JobCentre Plus has urged recruiters and employers to consider taking candidates with transferrable skills gained while working in other sectors. Darra Singh made the comments after a recent YouGov and JobCentre Plus survey showed that two-thirds of jobseekers would not rule out a move to another industry. He added: "With an increasingly flexible labour market, smart recruiters should look to widen their net and consider candidates with transferable skills gained working in different sectors. "Thousands of businesses already use our successful Work Trials scheme which allows them to try out a candidate on a trial basis." The survey also showed that just one-fifth of jobseekers have actively pursued training and education to help facilitate a potential career change, which shows that no graduate job hunter should rule it out. This news comes soon after the chief executive of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment claimed that the majority of students are leaving university with degrees that do not help them convert their hard work into suitable employment.
