New figures released today by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) have shown that joblessness reduced by 3,000 to reach 2.46 million, in news that may be of interest to recent university leavers looking for graduate recruitment. In addition, the number of 18 to 24-year-olds who were unemployed in the October to December quarter was down by 13,000 on the July to September period. While the number of job vacancies increased by 49,000 to shoot up to 479,000 - another sign that the graduate jobs market is looking better than it has been recently. Jim Knight, minister for employment and welfare reform, said: "It's good news that despite the worst recession since the 1930s we have helped half a million people back to work through Jobcentre Plus' flagship Local Employment partnership scheme. "Today we are also announcing the seventh round of winning Future Jobs Fund bidders which will create almost 6,000 more jobs for young people, bringing the total to almost 110,00."
