Research has shown that many university heads are taking tax-payer funded higher education money
An investigation undertaken by channel 4 has revealed that University heads of 100 leading British universities receive huge pay packets as well as perks which can include extravagant homes and expense claims for a 2 mile chauffeur from home to University campus.
With graduates set to have a debt on average of £80,000 after three years, and universities seeing huge cuts this will spark uproar from students and university lecturers whose jobs are insecure.
Half of the vice chancellors have been given a free property along with their salary and the value of these properties is believed to be around £50million. Many vica-chancellor roles are part time which means they also have other positions outside of university, Nancy Rothwell, vice-chancellor at the University of Manchester holds a £92,000-a-year position with the drugs firm AstraZeneca on top of the £322,000 she earns for her University position.
Amazingly Nancy isn’t the highest paid, Patricia Broadfoot former head of Gloucestershire University earnt £494,000 a year whilst her university is struggling with over £3million in debt.
