Law graduates 'benefit from flexibility'

Law graduates 'benefit from flexibility' Graduates entering into the legal sector should be flexible as to the type of law they would like to specialise in, it has been claimed.

According to Independent writer Louise Sethi, the current economic downturn has affected some practices more than others - meaning there is an uneven spread of employment opportunities inn the industry.

She advised graduates to consider jobs in commercial litigation and employment law in order to maximise their chances of landing a training contract, whereas an area such as real estate may be best avoided in the current climate.

Ms Sethi points out that the jobs market in the law sector is constantly competitive, as a result of the professional and financial gains that can be attained by the best talent.

Tom Hadley of the Recruitment and Employment Confederation recently suggested that graduates and other professionals looking to enter the industry may wish to consider temporary or paralegal work.
