“When I started the course, I truly didn’t think I would be capable of completing it. Juggling full-time work, assignments, functional skills, and being a mum—it all felt incredibly overwhelming. However, what kept me going was the difference I saw in the students that I support. That is, hands down, the most rewarding part of my job. I’ve come to realise that this is something I’m genuinely good at and truly enjoy. Throughout the course, I developed a much stronger understanding of our school’s demographic and the unique challenges our students face. The work is incredibly rewarding, though it can also be heartbreaking—it definitely pulls on my heartstrings. But that is why I am so passionate about my job! When I applied for the SEMH TA role, I was incredibly anxious.
