Sales Development Representative

SDRs are responsible for identifying sales leads, sourcing new opportunities and potential clients.

What does aSDR do?

At its most basic level, the Sales Development Representative (SDR) role and team is the engine that generates new business for their organisation. They will source, generate and build on sales leads - sourcing new opportunities and potential clients, or "prospects".

 

Often described as the ground floor route into Sales, but also one of the most challenging roles within a sales function - this role will shape your professional career in ways that are measurably and immeasurably positive.


You will need excellent communication skills and product knoweldge to pitch to these prospects. Some of the valuable traits of an SDR include - creativity, proactivity, resilience and a strategic mindset. Above all though, it's hard work and diligence that is required - and the rewards that you receive in an SDR role completely mirrors how much work you are willing to put in.

Typical responsibilities of an SDR include

  • StarCollaborate with the wider sales team in the effort to meet the team's sales targets
  • StarBook new business meetings with key stakeholders to generate consistent revenue pipeline
  • StarAct as a trusted advisor to prospective clients, to understand whether their needs can be met by the company

  • StarGenerate and maintain relationships with new clients, creating a platform upon which others within the sales function will close that business
  • StarUnderstand and map client accounts, their business strategies, priorities and goals - capture this information accurately within the CRM system
